How to Winterize your Car
As we head into another cold winter it is important to ensure your vehicle is up to the tasks associated with cold weather driving. We've compiled a list of must-dos to get your vehicle ready for the darkest months of the year! Stop by your local auto repair shop to have any necessary winterizing or other auto maintenance performed!
Check your owner's manual to make sure you're up to date with scheduled maintenance to ensure your vehicle is going to perform its best this winter.
The cold weather has a way of exacerbating issues like hard starts and sticky transmissions, so be sure to correct current problems before the freeze really sets in.
Make sure you have good wiper blades so you can see clearly through winter rains and snowfall.
A cooling system flush may be in order. This system pumps antifreeze through your engine to keep it from locking up. Check your owner's manual to see if your vehicle is due!
Is your battery in good shape? Check the connections to be sure they are tight and are clear of dirt and corrosion. Also be sure it isn't time to replace the battery.
It is important to check all your lights. The days are shorter, meaning you're going to need your headlights a lot more often. Not only is it safer, but for legal reasons all your lights must work!
Can your tires handle the cold? Consider switching to all weather tires if you are in a situation where you need new ones anyway. Check your current ones for cracked or bubbling rubber and ensure there is sufficient tread.
It never hurts to perform a brake check to ensure optimal stopping power.
Test the heater and defroster to make sure they're blowing warm or hot air. This will ensure you can see safely out of your windows and enjoy a comfortable ride.
For optimal performance this winter replace the fuel and air filter!
